WA: Officers stranded in ocean for eight hours

PERTH, Jan 11 AAP - Two police officers diving for crayfish survived eight hours stranded
in the ocean off the West Australian coast after their boat drifted away.

Senior Constables Geoffrey Benporath and Paul Hansen surfaced just after 10am (AWST) on
Saturday to see their 5.5 metre cabin cruiser drifting away.

Coral or sharp rocks on the ocean floor had cut the vessel's anchor rope, stranding the men
about 2km out to sea off San Remo, 75km south of Perth.

"One of them swam after the boat, but couldn't catch up with it, and they lost contact …
