Fed: King to declare hand on Wentworth this week

SYDNEY, Aug 30 AAP - Dumped Liberal Party MP Peter King will decide this week on whether
he will take on his successor Malcolm Turnbull for the Sydney seat of Wentworth.

The sitting member for the blue ribbon eastern Sydney seat lost Liberal endorsement
to Mr Turnbull during a bitter preselection battle in February this year.

He is yet to declare his hand on whether he will run as an independent in the October
9 poll, but his spokesman said an announcement would be made later in the week.

"Basically what he's saying is I'm doing my job as a representative and I'm considering
my options," Mr King's spokesman told AAP.

"He's indicated he would be prepared to talk to the media later in the week."

Prime Minister John Howard this morning urged Mr King to go quietly, warning that he
could hand his seat to Labor should he decide to stand as an independent.
