Qld: Man in court over Islamic mosque arson

A man accused of setting fire to a mosque in the aftermath of the US terrorist attacks
has appeared in a Brisbane court.

Twenty-three-year-old TERENCE JAMES HANLON hobbled into Brisbane's Magistrates Court
on crutches to face several charges over the arson attack on September 22 this year.

He was charged after a two-week investigation and faced his first court hearing two
months ago while in hospital after breaking his leg and hip in a car accident.

HANLON's name was suppressed by the court at that time because of fears of reprisal
by angry Muslims.

He was not required to enter a plea today on the charge of setting fire to the mosque
at Kuraby on Brisbane's southside.

He is also facing a charge of making threatening phone calls and unrelated charges
of posing as a policeman and stealing police clothes, police car stickers and a mobile
phone.

His lawyer, NEIL LAWLER, successfully applied for the case to be adjourned again for
another two weeks.

HANLON will face a committal mention on December 17.

Mr LAWLER said he would fight the charges.
