Vic: Storms bring flash floods in state's north east

MELBOURNE, Dec 19 AAP - Summer storms flooded buildings and damaged roofs in several
towns in Victoria's north-east overnight.

State Emergency Service north-east duty manager Arthur Farn said units from Shepparton,
Tatura and Murchinson responded to about 10 calls for assistance when heavy rains hit
the region after 8pm (AEDT) last night.

"There was a very heavy storm come in from the north-west to Shepparton district and
with it came some very heavy rain," he said.

Mr Farn said some areas in the region received up to 70 mm of rain in last night's downpour.

The flash flooding blocked downpipes, causing water to run into ceilings and damage roofs.

A cellar at a Murchinson hotel was also flooded in the heavy rains.
