NSW: Elderly man drowns trying to save relative

SYDNEY, Dec 20 AAP - A 75-year-old man has drowned while going to the aid of a young
family member at a beach on the NSW mid-north coast, emergency services say.

The Ambulance Service of NSW said the man's lifeless body was pulled from the water
at Little Beach at Scotts Head at 9.10am (AEDT) today.

He was pronounced dead at the scene before being taken to Macksville Hospital.

It is understood the man may have had a heart attack in the water as he tried to help
a family member, thought to be a grandchild, who was in trouble.
