Vic: Lovelorn counsellor refuses to testify against killer

A counsellor who fell in love with a jailed killer found herself in custody briefly
today after refusing to testify against her lover in a Melbourne court.

GENA FAWNS had already been served with a subpoena forcing her to appear in the Melbourne
Magistrates Court.

The 44-year-old was to give evidence against DARREN NEVILLE MAIR, a convicted killer
released on parole last year after serving eight years of a 12 year term.

The pair met in central Victoria's Loddon prison in 1995 where FAWNS worked as a prison
counsellor.
